Abstract:

The focus of this article is to examine the historical development and current status of one particular economic issue associated with the dissolution of a marriage: the award of spousal support. A court is called upon to consider not only whether an award of spousal support is appropriate but, if so, the amount and duration of the support as well. A comparison of approach to spousal support in Minnesota with other states highlights the underlying debate on these important issues of public policy. |
